A number of factors can get church leaders like these off onto strange paths. Satan can gain a foothold. The individuals in question may want more fame or fortune and "sell out" to get it. A church leader can take Scripture out of context or mishear God and become to stubborn to admit the mistake. People on the wrong trail are following their own road and have hardened their hearts to the Holy Spirit's leading. Unfortunately, those who have fallen away may have great prestige and can take others down with them.

When a believer stops giving glory to God and ceases to repent on regular basis, pride swells and the road gets worse from there.

Are questionable church leaders real Bible believing Christians? That's something you will have to decide for yourself. Remember 1 John 4:1-6: a spirit from God will acknowledge that Jesus came in the flesh. A spirit not from God will speak from the world's viewpoint and will appeal to the world. Matthew 7:15-20 also applies: you can recognize a believer by the fruit he or she bears.

another things is if you notice that the person seems more self serving they are most likely not trying to glorify God but glorify them selves. (1 Peter 5:5)(Galatians 5:13) also alot of people use all types of religions to gain fame and power. Charles Manson is one and i dont think any one who knows him would ever want to follow him. so be aware of these false prophets.

Only the LORD can and will judge that question. Christians are human beings, born into a sinful nature and we ALL must find our own walk in life, through faith.

There is not one of us, who have it down and there is not one of us, who can truly understand or comprehend the vastness of God.

One cannot know the spirit of the man, except the man himself and the LORD.

Peace in Christ
