Perfect Parents

Why do so many churches teach that if you parent perfectly and do your very best at raising your children then your children will turn out to be wonderful productive members of both society and the church and who follow Jesus into their adulthood? I believed this teaching too until our lives were turned upside down by one of our children.

I found the article in the January issue of Christianity Today on the Myth of the perfect parent very helpful, but am left feeling hurt and confused by the smug and successful people and student pastor in my church who continue to believe that the reason their children are so wonderful is because they got it right as parents.
