A lot of questions I see on church are about the Sabbath Day. A popular misconception is that people think that a day is our 24 hour clock that we live and work by today. Also there is the argument concerning the 1st day of the week that, some will say is Sunday while others say this is Monday. The reason behind this is because people are trying to define exactly what The Sabbath Day really is. I will attempt to answer these questions using not only biblical scripture but also by use of Jewish observance (I am Christian by the way) and how this all fits in for us.
Biblically, the actual answer is basically Sunday as being the first day of the week. A lot of people have this question. If the Sabbath is Saturday, why then do Christians worship on Sundays? It says in Genesis:
'1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. 5. God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." 6. Then God said "Let there be space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth." 7. And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters from the earth from the waters of the heavens. 8. God called the space "Sky." And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day. (Genesis 1:1-8, NLT Bible).
Breaking this down basically, it means that each day is not from midnight one day until midnight of that same day like a lot of us believe these days. The actual days consist from 6pm one day until 6pm the next day. So all these people who question that Christians have forgotten the Sabbath or don't celebrate it are incorrect. This is how it works. It goes Sunday 6pm until Monday 6pm is the first day, Monday 6pm until Tuesday 6pm is the 2nd day, Tuesday 6pm until Wednesday 6pm is the 3rd day, Wednesday 6pm until Thursday 6pm is the 4th day, Thursday 6pm until Friday 6pm is the 5th day, Friday 6pm until Saturday 6pm is the 6th day and Saturday 6pm until Sunday 6pm is the 7th day.
Hope this answers this particular part.
