yeah if they say that then usually they don't know what they're talking about. Don't worry though, it's not just Mormons, a lot of people don't know that Catholics are Christians.

To be honest, when I was younger I was confused by all of the Christian denominations too, lol.

The bible repeatedly verifies the fact that Christ was God, most notably in John 1:1 (but in many other places as well) not to mention the fact that Jesus himself claimed to be God (John 14:7-10, John 10:30, John 14:11) The entire book of John was written specifically to show the deity of Jesus.

The fact that Jesus is God is a fundamental pillar of Christianity. On this point there is no disagreement. None.

Simply put, if you do not believe that Jesus is God (God being triune - Father, Son, Holy Spirit), then you are not a Christian. Since the Bible clearly proves the Jesus is God, then to believe otherwise is to deny the validity of the Word of God. If Jesus is NOT God, then the Bible is a lie.

You can come however close to that as you want, but it's all or nothing. In other words, saying the Jesus was equal with God is not enough (how can anything be equal with God without being God. God is pure and uniquely perfect). Saying that Jesus is the Top Dog of all creation is not enough. The Bible is either true or it is not.

If Christ was not God, we are all doomed to the outer darkness. Only a perfect sacrifice would have been worthy to satisfy God's righteous anger once and for all.

The fact of the matter is, we really ARE all headed for the outer darkness because we have broken God's law (ten commandments). God is a perfect Judge, and will hand out perfect justice on the day of wrath. Because we have all broken his law, He must judge us guilty and undeserving of eternal reward.

The good news is that He loved us enough to die in our place. He paid your fines in His life's blood. Because of that, God can now let you enter eternal life with Him. His justice has been satisfied. By accepting the death and resurrection of Christ, trusting in him for your salvation, and turning away from your sins, you can become righteous in God's eyes. Washed clean by His perfect sacrifice.

If you don't believe that you have broken God's law (the ten commandments), ask yourself if you've ever lied, stolen, lusted, hated, taken the name of God in vain . . . If your human, then the Bible says you have done some or even all of these things. Like me, you are guilty. That means it's the outer darkness for you unless you accept the true Christ, God the Son.

You don't need the book of Mormon, because the Bible alone is sufficient (2 Timothy 3:16). Joseph Smith was confused as to what was the truth because he didn't have the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 1:18, 1 Corinthians 2:14). You can be sure of the truth by studying the one Bible, and obeying what you read (John 14:21).

To answer your question, the reason that everyone says that Mormon's are not Christians is because they are clearly not Christians. Mormonism is a cruel deception. Read the Bible and see the truth for yourself. Put the book of mormon away and compare your beliefs against Holy Scripture.

Start in 1 John

But if they believe in Jesus Christ as being God and dying for our sins, wouldn't that make them a Christian too? I think it's just another denomination of Christianity. On the other hand, some people call themselves a "Christian" but don't believe in Jesus as God..now those people would be non-Christians.

Juliagirl, you said, "some people call themselves a 'Christian' but don't believe in Jesus as God . . . now those people would be non-christians".

Mormons ARE people who call themselves Christians but don't believe Jesus is God.

Look, I know this sounds intolerant, but we have to remember that there is only one truth. That's not fair, but it's the way it is. Everyone cannot simply believe whatever they want and call it the truth.

Believing in Jesus means nothing if he is NOT God. How can Jesus death and resurrection be sufficient to atone for all the sins of creation if he is only a part of creation himself? His was the perfect sacrifice, and only God is perfect.

There are other tenants of the Christian faith besides believing that Jesus is God. That one is a biggie though, and I used it as the simplest way to shake off some of the cults that try to call themselves Christianity.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe that Jesus is God.

Mormon's do not believe that Jesus is God.

There are others, but I don't have time to list them. The fact remains that it is damaging for Christians to be associated with these cults. Atheists see us as scattered, with no clear view on what we actually believe, and that lie inocculates them against the power of the Gospel.

It's true that many Christian denominations exist, and there are minor differences in our beliefs that can be viewed as points for debate.

The fact that Jesus is God, however, is NOT a point for debate among Christians. Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God. They believe he is awesome, just not God. Therefore they are not Christians.

Believe me, there are many other things that Mormons believe that preclude them from calling themselves Christians. Some of the things they believe include . . .

~God was once a man (not Jesus) who became exalted.
~God has a wife who he makes spirit children with.

Any religion that leads us away from the truth is false and dangerous. Surely you see that. Many people seeking God are led astray by cults such as mormonism, just as predicted in the Bible (2 Timothy 4:3-4 among others).

Matthew 7: 21-23

Matthew 7:14

If you want, we can talk about Catholicism next.

Being a Christian involves more than just a belief in Jesus Christ. It involves a belief in who he says he is. Jesus made it very plain about his relationship with God and this is set out in the New Testament.Mormonism is very specific in denying what Christians believe about the person of Jesus Christ and God
2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
