Will i have problems if i do this?
Recently,i've felt the Holy Spirit strongly compelling me to stop playing a certain violent videogame which i've been addicted to. I also felt that towards anime series and any media whose content is something opposite to God's teachings.
At first,it felt difficult to accept that, because in my mind, since by playing that game and watching/reading those series i'm not practicising the sins or feeling compelled to commit them in real life, why do i have to abandon those things.
And then i grew very angry towards God and Jesus Christ,as if they were being too harsh on me,and then i started thinking badly of them in every aspect.
Now i've calmed down and stopped thinking badly of them, but i'm still not completely willing to stop doing the things i mentioned.
After thinking for a while,i've figured that maybe the Spirit wants me to stop because being addicted to that game is the same as loving wordly things and because it is a pleasure of flesh. Considering that i got angry at God because of it,i can't deny it is true, loving wordly things does put your further away from God.
But even so,i don't see it as an actual sin.
I know that disobeying the Holy Spirit is dangerous, but can playing a videogame/watching movies/series qualify as sinning?

I Corinthians 6:12 ......., but I will not be brought under the power of any.
To me this verse means that GOD is saying He will not be mastered or He will not be second to anything in your life. Mark 12:30 states that we should love GOD more than anything else. You should be addicted to nothing except GOD. Personally I once had the same problem. I'd spend like 30 minutes with GOD and the rest of my time on video games, watching anime, or reading manga. As my relationship with GOD grew i started to feel bad about the time i spent on my video games and such. Once i changed my priorities, i lost that bad feeling about playing video games and such. True i don't play as much as i'd like too, but i'm at a point in my spiritual walk that i no longer put a time limit on how much free time i spend with GOD. Sometimes i spend an hour sometimes i spend 5 hours and sometimes i spend all my free time with Him. I let God decide, but that's me.
Try this:
1.) instead of limiting the amount of time you spend with God you should limit the amount of time you spend playing video games and watching anime and stuff.
2.) try fasting your video games and stuff for 3 days(i like doing 3 days because that was time before Jesus' resurrection) or however long you choose to fast, and once your fasting is over try limiting your video game time so that you spend more time with God each day.
In Genesis 22:1-14 God is testing Abrahams faith by asking him to sacrifice his son whom Abraham loves very very very much. When God saw that Abraham loved Him more than his son Isaac he stopped Abraham from harming his son. I think God just wants to see if you love HIM more than video games and stuff.
To answer your question I'd say(Romans 14:22 and Romans 14:23) If you don't think you can play video games and or read anime in faith that it is not sin, or if for some reason you continue to feel guilty when you do those things then i suggest you don't do it or that you stop doing it because anything not of faith is sin. You seem to have a good understanding of things, so i'd say just change your priorities. I still play my video games and read my manga and watch my anime. I changed my priorities to where God was first in my life, and then I lost my bad feeling about playing video games and such. I'm sure God is trying to tell you what he was trying to tell me, which was that "HE wants to spend more time with you, and that HE wants you to love HIM more than you love playing video games and such!!"
Ecclesiastes 1:14 To me this verse means that everything we do during our time away from God is sin. We have to go to work, we have to go to school, before we are old enough to take care of ourselves we're suppose to obey our parents, we try to make our dreams come true, we try to be successful, etc. Any time we spend away from God is vanity, and vanity is sin. Ecclesiastes 5:18 To me this verse means that God wants us to enjoy the fruits of our labor. For you and me that's playing video games, watching anime, and such. However we're not suppose to enjoy those things more than we enjoy GOD.
Remember Romans 14:22 and Romans 14:23
Anything not of faith is sin.
Hope this helps.
Something like this has happened to me recently, would like to know more.
To be addicted means to be a slave. To be a slave is to be in bondage. When we are in bondage, we are being ruled by satan. Jesus died for us in order to redeem us and set us free from the grips of the enemy.
God wants to free you, but you refuse to be freed. God is giving you an order through the Holy Spirit, but disobeying God is a sin. He doesn't forbid us of things to punish us or hurt us, He does it because He loves us.
The following verse:
Matthew 6:23
"But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
This means that everything you see that is not of God, goes into the body through the eyes and directly into the mind and the heart. Since these dark things enter through the eyes, then the entire body will become full of darkness.
You may not see it as being a bad thing at the moment, but it will have reprocussions in the long run. God is all knowing, therefore He knows the future. Perhaps God knows how playing this game will have a nagative influence on you in the future. Either by pushing you away from God or perhaps becoming suseptible to sin. First small things, then moving on to bigger things.
God knows what's good and what's bad for us. Smoking is bad because eventually it will cause cancer. Alcohol is bad because eventually it will damage your liver. Junk food is bad because it will make you gain weight and produce heart disease. Video games have even led teens to kill their parents because of it. The parents kept the teen from playing the game, the teen became angry, hated the parents and then killed their parents because of it. Please do some research on this in order to see how many murders are commited because of violent video games.
Many times everything that we enjoy is bad for us. God loves you and He knows what is best for you and what is not.
Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
God wants us happy, but sometimes those things bring destruction as well. The enemy does not tempt us with bad things. He tempts us with enticing things, that's why they are called temptations. God is your Father in heaven. He knows what is best for you.
Here's a final ananlogy. Let's say you have a friend, that your father doesn't approve of. Your father tells you that your friend is bad news and he doesn't want you hanging out with him. You get angry with your father and do it anyway. One night your friend tells you to go with him to the store, so you do. At the store, without notice, your friend pulls out a gun, robs the clerk, shoots and kills him. Although you had no idea this was going to happen, you are now an accessory to robbery and murder. Your father was right about your friend, but you didn't listen so you disobeyed. Get it?
So you see, God is love and He loves you. If He is telling you to quit that video game, you need to listen, ask God to forgive you for disobeying and to help you get over it. There are plenty of other video games out there that are as enjoying. Don't let the devil tempt you. Don't let the enemy win, and show satan that he is not in control, God is and so are you.
